Green and Red (MSX2+) by Blue Crystal
A downloadable project
By this writing I submit the entry “Green and Red” to the 2025 10liner basic contest. This submission is for the category “Show” (“Schau”).
This entry is written for the MSX2+ homecomputer system in the Basic language. It consists of a graphical demo, displaying various relatively large moving objects which is not expected for a bitmapped screen. My Basic programming skills are not that developed, leading me to have quite some fun exploring potential routes to achieve what I wanted to create. Thank you for the organization of the competition, without it this demo would not have been created.
Install instructions
In lack of access to an MSX2+ or higher device, this demo can be loaded in the OpenMSX emulator.
In the Select MSX machine menu, use the available filters, 1) Type “MSX2+”, 2) Region “—all”. Select the one of desire, for development the Sony HB-F1XDJ was used but any model will suffice. Sequent click “Replace current machine” or “New machine instance” to start the emulator.
One can drag and drop the provided “.dsk” file in the emulator.
Type the command run”greenred.bas” to start the demo.
Alternatively, use load”greenred.bas” and the command List to have a look at the Basic code.
In the first 30-35 seconds a black screen is shown. During this time the application carries out various calculations and is generating graphical data in VRAM.
